| TRUE APHRODISIACS... |
| Aphrodisiacs exist and there are a variety of controlled substances that fit the bill. See http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/pihkal/pihkal.shtml for a good introduction to many of them. YMMV on any of these as physiology’s do differ from person-to-person due to genetics. However, I know several couples who would rank sex on LSD or 2-CB as one of the most profound orgasmic experiences of their lives. Chocolate is a natural aphrodisiac in that it contains tryptophan, a natural precursor to serotonin (also found in the legal 5-HTP dietary supplement) and seratonin is the main neurotransmitter involved with the brain’s pleasure center and orgasm. (See http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/hottopics/chocolate/addictive2.shtml for more information on chocolate’s effect.) Prozac, which is used to treat people with mild depression, is sort of a mild form of MDMA (ecstacy). It works by keeping naturally secreted seratonin in your blood stream for longer than it would be normally, thus making you "feel" better. Ecstacy is like this only more so, causing your body to essentially dump all its reserve seratonin at once. (The alleged damage that ecstacy may or may not cause appears to be because it also causes your body to get another neurotransmitter, dopamine, somewhere where it doesn’t normally belong. Whether this is really harmful or not is simply not clear. More science is required and there are finally studies underway which might help to actually figure out the underlying truth. Millions of people took MDMA in the 80’s when it was legal and there are no discernable long-term health effects amongst this population. It’s a hypocrisy that we perform chemical experiments on people all the time in the form of lab trials for the big government-backed pharmaceuticals, but we aren’t allowed to let interested scientists determine which psychoactive substances are actually harmful or beneficial. As you might guess, MDMA has shown significant potential for treatment of a variety of mental illnesses. Apologies for the anti-Drug War rant, we now return you to your regular drunken bar poetry...) |
